Do you feel people and experiences have a bigger place in your life than - things?
There are certain times in our lives when we experience emptiness. Whether it be because we are sad, lonely, are alone, or feeling lost in our sense of direction with our lives. It's totally normal, right? How we deal with it, is the biggest challenge. This kind of void needs to be filled with something.
Sometimes we fill it with positive and productive things, sometimes we fill it with material things. Most of the time without even knowing it, we are filling it with something. The key is to be aware.
As you know, I spent this month on a #nobuyjuly because I needed to check in with myself and address feelings of emptiness. Why were they happening and what was I going to do about it.
I buy when I cry.
When I am feeling blue, I tend to buy things I don't need, especially clothes, food and things I don't need - insert #nobuyJuly. It was very successful. I was able to step back from impromptu purchases and recheck in with myself. I am feeling more complete and positive. It was time to reconnect with the idea of living with less and realize in return I have more.
What makes you say “hellyeah” at the end of the day? For any question I am asked or I ask myself, if I cannot 100% say hell yeah as my answer then it is a hell no. I want you to embrace saying yes with your whole heart and soul by enjoying every part of your authentic life. At the end of each month, I want to get more up close and personal with you all on the other side of the airwaves and share with you more about how my podcast guests are I are doing our best to #embracethehellyeah. This month I’m chatting about my “No Buy July” and why I am getting away from retail therapy.

Nosh Three. Monthly Hell Yeah!
July was a month of experiences instead of things. I started off the month heading to a whirlwind trip of visiting my favorite people out west. I headed to shoot off fireworks for the 4th with my friend Carlena and her family, attended a 4th of July party with my friend Brenda and then ended with spending time with my cousin Lindsey and her daughters Ally and Lucy.
It was Ally's 5th birthday party weekend and we went to Alpacas of the Heartland Farm. It was a blast and Ally loved having all her friends and family with her to experience the farm and celebrate her birthday. The best part was feeding the alpacas carrots. Carrot chunks they eat out of your hand OR you can get an alpaca kiss if you put a carrot chip in your mouth.
As many of you know, cherries are my most favorite fruit (and coincidentally part of my branding). I had the joy to have a great dietitian on my podcast, Lisa Andrews, who owns Sound Bites Nutrition and has a great shop of clothing with the best food puns. We gave away this adorable shirt to a lucky podcast winner and of course I bought my own. She has t-shirt, sweatshirts, bags, cards and even baby clothes. From her website: "Food pun tees and swag start a conversation around food and “take a bite” out of food insecurity. A portion of each purchase supports those with food insecurity by providing counseling, programs and nutrition education in the Cincinnati area."
Make sure to grab your own at Sound Bites Nutrition Shop.
The end of this month, I took a few "staycation" days to recharge and my friend Carlena traveled east. Unfortunately she got caught in road construction for an adding 2 hours to her drive, but she prevailed and we made up for it with some delicious eats and great conversation.
One last thing I was really excited about this month is how awesome my one (yes one, that is all I can commit to) outdoor pot is doing. I am not a believer in buying plants to put into my pots, I save money and plant seeds. My coleus were teeny tiny seeds in May and look at how pretty they are now. Another great way to not go bonkers spending money. Seeds grow too, just a little slower but still beautiful.
Nosh Four. Monthly Mixtape.
July's Mixtape is a bunch of my favorite random summer songs I have been enjoying on my evening walks. You can find it on Apple Music and Spotify. |
Alright my friends, I like to cocktail in the summer and this is a game changer. I know there are many options to choose from but a good mojito is hard to beat. Do you know about the La Croix NicCola? The Cubana is one of 4 flavors and it has the essence of rum, mint and lime. Delicious with or without alcohol but adding a few springs of fresh mint is a must. Other flavors include coconut, coffee and cola. Let's keep the party going all summer long!
