Much more than a Migraine.

Today, I was sitting in on a meeting on medication therapy for migraines. As I sat there listening about this fantastic drug to help the pain, all I could think about was, "what are the triggers that really cause migraines?"

The presenter talked extensively about this medication and then towards the end, she briefly talked about the causes of the migraine. On that list were many things that are health and nutrition related. Maybe, to start with, look at the big picture before swallowing a pill. Why not look at lifestyle changes that could possible thwart off the risk of a migraine?

Top Causes of a Migraine

-Food additives (MSG, chemicals in processed foods, artificial sweeteners)
-Caffeine
-Alcohol
-Hormonal changes (that could also be tied into food consumption)
-Weather changes
-Smoking
-Sleeping patterns (minimal hours of sleep)
