Another wonderful week of weather in the midwest. How fun is this? Of course, I may be a little sarcastic in this comment, but sometimes I wonder why I live here!
This is a great week to get out of your comfort zone, especially where I live. We get out of our comfort zone to go out in this weather and attempting to safely maneuver around the city to get to work, grocery shop and pick up our kids.
Why not with our food? This is a great time of year to experiment with some new foods. Citrus is a great buy at stores and they offer a fun variety. Have you ever heard of a pummelo? A pummelo is a sweeter version of a grapefruit. It is larger in size and is green on a the outside. They are delcicious and a little more kid friendly than a grapefuit. A few more on my list are tangelos and kumkwats. I have even seen key limes available in the store, why not make a key lime pie?
Besides fruit, make sure to check out a great low carbohydrate option known as the "mexican potato", a jicama. Jicamas are a great low calorie snack. You peel the jicama and slice it as you like. I put mine in strips and have it for my afternoon snack.
Also, there is a product called a Slimcado. It is an avocado that has 35% less fat and 50% less calories than a regular California avocado. It does have a little more water in it, so when you use it, eat it right away. It is great for guacamole and as a spread on sandwiches.
These are just a few fun foods to try while you are out of your food comfort zone. I have many more foods I will share with you along the way and I will add more as I step out of MY food comfort zone.
